Wena Poon (1974- ) is a Singaporean-born lawyer and novelist based in the United States. She has lived in Hong Kong, New York, Boston, San Francisco and Austin.  After completing her education in Raffles Junior College, she went on to graduate magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University with an honours degree in English Literature. She received a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School and continues to practice law.

Poon primarily writes fiction in English, and since 2002, her cosmopolitan stories have been widely anthologised and translated into various languages including French and Chinese. Her work explores issues of diaspora culture, identity, and gender, and her short stories have been studied by British, American, Hong Kong and Singaporean academics as examples of transnational literature.

Poon’s work has been acknowledged both locally and internationally – she has won the Willesden Herald Short Story Prize (UK), and has been nominated for the Frank O’ Connor Award (Ireland), Le Prix Hemingway (France) the Bridport Prize in Poetry (UK), the Singapore Literature Prize, and the Popular Readers Award (Malaysia).

Despite having lived most of her adult life in the US, Poon remains emotionally connected to Singapore and her heritage, having spent her formative years here. She notes, “I would like Singapore to be viewed, overseas and, more importantly, back home, as a strong player on the international cultural stage. This is critical for the development of strong national self-esteem.”
